Bertha Benz Memorial

The monument commemorates a remarkable woman and the first journey from Mannheim to Pforzheim.

The monument by the Pforzheim artist René Dantes commemorates the pioneering deed of Bertha Benz, who, together with her sons Eugen and Richard, undertook the world's first long-distance journey in an automobile in August 1888. The extremely arduous journey went over "hill and dale" from Mannheim to her hometown of Pforzheim.
